Now that we’re officially moving out in about a month, we’re slowly looking around for our options. We want our home to be perfect for our growing family. Is there enough room for the kids to play around on? Can we entertain the guest and family? How about celebrating milestones and occasions? All of these are something we are accounting for. What we quickly realized is that there’s really no such thing as the perfect home unless you make a few changes and addition.
One of the things that are very important to us is family. We love spending time with family, and we are more than excited to open our new home to any of our family and even friends who wish to visit and stay. I also love having my own private staycation spot as I am not too crazy about spending a lot of time on public places. We currently live in a townhome, and while I love our community pool, I still prefer lounging on our own backyard.
So how do we achieve the picture perfect backyard? Here are a few ideas that I came up with …
1. Outdoor Furniture
Putting outdoor furniture will add design and color to your entertainment area. Aside from being able to host guest and parties, it will also create the perfect lounge to relax and unwind. Some outdoor furniture pieces that would surely elevate any backyard are as follow:
- Gazebo or a Flower-Covered Pergola
- Swing sofas
- Day Bed
2. Outdoor Bar
Putting up a bar is going to be one of your entertainment area’s highlight. Partying at home is never a problem if you have this in your backyard. Let’s be honest, partying, and celebrating at home is much more comfortable and sometimes friendlier in the budget. Perfect for the family who loves to have a frequent get-together. It’s an excellent addition for having a staycation spot at the comforts of your own property.
3. Outdoor TV

4. Swimming Pool
If you have the budget, consider investing in an in-ground swimming pool in your backyard area. If you have your own swimming pool, you don’t have to go far if you want to relax, unwind, and bond with your family. You can swim anytime you want, and you can even prepare a few picnic snacks to make it extra fun. Majority of kids love to swim, so if you have a growing family, swimming is another way to bond with them while they are having fun.
Imagine having your own spa. Crazy right? Instead of spending money on a spa outside, invest in building a small spa in your backyard. Not only you can use it to relax, but it can also be a highlight in your entertainment area. Since building a spa is going to be pricey, here’s a tip on how you can save a couple of bucks. Use an old vacant room and beds to lessen the expenses. It is also a wise idea if you will use your extra towels, linens, bed sheet, and pillows at home. Another good thing when you have your own spa at home is that you can use your preferred oils, lotions, and other ointments that you like.
6. Outdoor Kitchen
An outdoor kitchen is not that common since most homes are just a few steps away from their actual kitchen. But, if you would like to level up your backyard, consider adding an outdoor cooking area even if it is not a full kitchen. It will be an excellent way to entertain, join the fun while hosting a backyard party.
An outdoor party is never complete without barbeque, so including a grill is highly recommended. Either a built-in or a portable grill would make a great choice. If you want it to add to the impact of your backyard’s overall aesthetic or look, then you should opt for a built-in grill. If you it to be more accessible and can be taken everywhere, then a portable grill is a better choice.
8. Built-in Seating
If you want long-lasting seats, it is advisable to add built-in chairs and tables. You can either go with ceramics or cement so that it can withstand any weather. Wood is a nice idea too, but it would be better if it has a roof above it to protect it from the rain. Another advantage of built-in chairs and table is you have the freedom to choose whatever design you want.
What do you think of these ideas? Do you see any of these as a great addition to your backyard too? Would love to know!
