Cleaning the kitchen is tiring and can quickly eat up too much time. But just like everyone else I don’t have any choice, the mess won’t clean itself up. Maybe if I was a celebrity and can afford my own maid (or two!). Except I can’t, so the closest I can get is to do it myself and make sure our kitchen is sanitized. After all, it is where I prepare and cook our food.
Let’s be honest though, busy moms like me are struggling to deal with all the cleaning every single day. Here’s comes the big BUT … did you know there are ways how to lessen the effort in doing kitchen chores? There are hacks that I do for our household to spend less time in the kitchen, and better believe that it all works like a charm! The following are some of my favorite hacks, and I hope you find it helpful!
1. Sanitize and Deep Clean Wooden Chopping Board
Wooden chopping boards can be very dirty when not thoroughly cleaned. It can be contaminated if not treated well, so deep cleaning of the board is essential. My favorite way of doing so is by using lemon and salt. I scatter a decent amount of salt in the board, and then rub it with a half lemon. Leave the salt and its juice for 5 minutes and then rinse it off with water.
2. Remove Grease Build-up with Lemon
Grease can be very annoying to remove, but there’s a trick on cleaning it efficiently. Mix the baking soda and fresh lemon juice in hot water. Soak greasy pans, trays, utensils, and dishes into the mixture and leave it for five minutes. Wash it using your regular dishwashing soap and notice how easy the grease will fall off.
Bonus: rub the lemon into the stainless steel pans and cookware to give it an extra shine.
3. Sanitize Your Sponges with Microwave
A kitchen sponge is one of the dirtiest things in the kitchen. It is a carrier of germs and bacteria, so sanitizing it regularly is a must. Your sponge might look clean, but under a microscope, it is full of microbes that are ready to transfer to your utensils when used. To kill those unnecessary bacterias, what I do is put those sponges in the microwave for two to three minutes. Wash them, and they are good to go.
4. Clean Off Water Stains
Water stains are common in the kitchen area. It can be seen generally in the sink, island, floorings, backsplash, and even silverware. To remove those stains, gently pour the vinegar into the infected area, leaving it for five minutes. Gently scrub it with a sponge, and then rinse it thoroughly. Follow these easy steps, and your kitchen will look like brand new and presentable again.
5. Deep Clean Your Dishwasher with Vinegar
The dishwasher is where we wash our dishes, so disinfecting it is essential at least once a month. The easiest way to deep clean it is to fill two mugs with vinegar, then put it in the dishwasher. Place the first mug in the top rack and then the second mug in the bottom. Set it into a hot cycle and you are done.
If your dishwasher can use an upgrade, I highly recommend checking BOSCH Premium line of dishwashers! I love that it is the quietest dishwasher brand in the U.S. AND most reliable dishwasher brand with the lowest repair rate (according to a leading consumer publication). In fact, it is so quiet that without the InfoLight ® you won’t even know it’s running. Also, there’s the 3rd rack for an additional load in case you have a lot of dishes to clean and an Adjustable Rackmatic™ rack which provides 9 adjustable positions giving you maximum loading flexibility.
BOSCH Premium Dishwasher
Don’t have one? Make sure to visit your local Best Buy store, or online as they offer competitive prices, free delivery, and guess what? They price match too! On top of that, they also have flexible financing options and 10% or 12% Back from Bosch with Package.

6. Revive Burnt Pots Back to Life
If you have burnt pots and it feels like you can’t use it anymore, do not lose hope and just follow these easy steps. Fill your burnt kitchenware with water and two to three cups of vinegar. Boil it, and let it cool. Add two tablespoon of baking soda into the mixture and then leave it for five minutes. Scrub the stains using your regular sponge and see how you revive your burnt pots and pans hassle-free.
7. Zap Your Microwave Clean Using Vinegar
Microwave can be messy and wiping it off using regular cloth is not enough. To make it look brand new again, what I do is steam cleaning it at least once a month using vinegar. Mix a decent amount of water and vinegar in a bowl, and then heat it in the microwave for ten minutes. Remove the bowl and then wipe the microwave using a clean cloth.
8. Freshen Up Your Fridge and Remove Nasty Odors
You put different items in your fridge. That includes raw meat, leftovers, fruits, and vegetables. That gives the refrigerator an awful smell. The secret to a fresh smelling fridge is by putting a plate of ground coffee inside it and then leave it overnight.
9. Unclog and Deodorize Smelly Drains
Pipes can create an awful smell when not taken care of. If you have slimy, stinky drains, you can eliminate the foul odor with the help of hot water, baking soda, and vinegar. Mix the baking soda and vinegar into the hot water, and then slowly pour it into the drain.
10. Freshen Up Your Garbage Disposal
To get rid of its foul odor cut a lemon in half and then toss it in the garbage disposal. Wear gloves as you thoroughly clean it the rest of your sink using lemon and running water. Once you’re done toss the lemon in, and you’ll see how the lemon freshens things up.
Cleaning the kitchen can be stressful, but there are ways to do it efficiently. Follow these simple hacks, and I am sure cleaning will be fun and easier the next time you do it. Spending lesser time in the kitchen means spending more time with the family. Level up your cleaning routines with this tricks and your kitchen will look brand new again.
