There are certain bodily flaws that we have to learn to live with. However, bad teeth are not one of those flaws. In fact, it’s never too late to fix your teeth. This post explains why.
Braces aren’t just for teenagers
It’s common for teeth to become misaligned as our adult teeth come through. Many kids end up getting braces to fix this – usually during the teenage years. However, some of us aren’t so lucky.
Fortunately, there’s no age limit as to when you can get braces. If you missed out on them as a child, why not consider getting them as an adult?
Nowadays, there are so many different types of braces for helping to achieve straight teeth. You don’t have to opt for the classic train track braces – there are many options that are less visible. By opting for these invisible braces, most people won’t even have to know that you’re wearing braces.
Tooth decay doesn’t always mean tooth removal
Tooth decay is something that needs to be treated to prevent it from getting worse. A lot of people put off a trip to the dentist because they believe that tooth removal is the only solution to tooth decay. However, there are in fact many cases where the tooth can be saved, even with a major cavity.
Filling and crowns are just one solution to tooth decay. There are also treatment options like root canal procedures which can help to remove the infected part of a tooth while preserving the tooth. Unless the tooth is dead or severely infected, a dentist will usually be able to save it.
Even if your teeth can’t be saved, there are solutions
A tooth extraction doesn’t mean that you’ll have to walk around with a gap in your teeth for the rest of your life. You can usually get the missing tooth replaced with an implant. Modern implants are designed to look as realistic as possible so that they blend in with the rest of your teeth.
When it comes to replacing multiple teeth, dentures are not the only option. You may be able to get multiple implants fitted or there could be options like bridges. A dentist that specializes in tooth reconstruction will be able to run through these options with you.
It’s never too late to give up bad dental habits
A lot of tooth decay is caused by poor dental hygiene. You can stop your teeth from developing further decay by making sure that you’re brushing twice per day and by making sure that you’re brushing each tooth properly. This is something you can start doing at any point in your life.
It’s also worth giving up bad habits that could be making your teeth more prone to decay. Smoking is one of the biggest causes of tooth decay – quit smoking and you could help preserve your teeth. Sugary drinks are another big culprit – by drinking more water throughout the day and less sugary drinks, you could help to beat tooth decay. On top of protecting your teeth, you’ll also help many other parts of your body by giving up smoking and reducing sugary drinks.
