If you notice any new (or old) interior design trends in stores lately, you can thank millennials! The millennial set have been seriously inspiring interior design trends, whether they’re bringing back vintage styles from before they were born or creating their own unique trends!
Pops of Color
While using pops of color is not exactly a new concept in interior design, millennials are especially known for loving this style. In addition to brightly-colored vases, picture frames, and accent pillows, there are tons of fresh new ways to bring color into your home. Many millennials achieve a more colorful look by purchasing candy-colored appliances, such as a toaster or Keurig coffee maker, and let the colors speak for themselves against an otherwise bland kitchen. Using pops of color in new and clever ways is just one important way millennials have been changing the interior design landscape.
Modern Minimalism
Another trend that millennials have been loving is modern minimalism. A minimalist home typically consists of the basics. For instance, a modern minimalist kitchen would have sleek, elegant versions of basic appliances and minimal countertop clutter, aside from a vase of flowers or bowl of fresh fruit. This design style is growing increasingly more popular among millennials, who are starting to distance themselves from the gaudy, loud interior design trends of the 80s. You may even notice this modern minimalism style while looking through the Charlotte homes for sale!
Textures
Materials like velvet, corduroy, and satin are having a big moment lately. These textures, which were once thought of as “dated” because of their popularity in the 70s, 80s and 90s, are everywhere now, and everything from clothing to home decor often feature these fabrics. To incorporate these textures in your home, start out small and purchase things like throw pillows, blankets, and ottomans. If you want to make a bigger statement, try more prominent features in a trendy fabric, like curtains, duvet covers, or sofas. Introducing different textures into your home decor is a great way to try a new look without fully committing to a trend.
Space-Saving Design
These days, many millennials are gravitating towards apartments rather than houses. Because of this, there are tons of ways to save space while also staying trendy. Something that a lot of millennials have been embracing is the open floorplan trend. The demand for loft and studio apartments has gone up significantly, and millennials are getting creative with how to make these types of spaces work. A platform bed is a great way to create more storage space in a way that’s both aesthetically pleasing and functional, and can be DIY’d to fit any apartment. Moving bar carts are also popular decor pieces in many millennial apartments. Bar carts can be moved from room to room and can be used to hold everything from extra drink glasses to beauty supplies.
Creativity is one of the strongest aspects of millennial interior design trends, and incorporating even one of these trends into your home can really shake things up and give your space a fresh, young feel!

October 23, 2018It is so smart to use pops of colors and one has to be brave enough to use the brightly colored vases, picture frams and accent pillows. Now I know how to re-decorate my living room now, I may go find some accent pillows to refresh the whole place.

October 23, 2018I long for a modern minimalist home. I have the modern home but with 6 kids there is always junk around. I must be the only one who really doesn’t appreciate flowers being given to me as I just thing “where on earth am I going to put these”. Your stylish look will keep me dreaming.
