Doing household chores is obviously tiring and time-consuming. There are a few things which I don’t mind … like hand washing our dinnerware and utensils, or even loading the washer and dryer. Except for one. Which I honestly find to be the most annoying thing that I have to do AND that is cleaning the oven. Why do I hate doing this part of my chores? Because it can get grimy, sticky and top it all, it is time-consuming. The time that I just can’t waste especially when you’re caring for a little one.
As a full-time, and work-at-home mama, I have to juggle my time wisely. Needless to point out that multi-tasking needs quite a few tricks and hacks to be done efficiently. For those of you who also dislike cleaning your oven, I am sharing some of my tips to make cleaning easier and manageable.
Water, Vinegar, and Baking Soda
This is the most common solution and the easiest way to clean the oven. To do this, make sure that the oven is perfectly cool or not in use for at least 4 hours. First, mix the baking soda, vinegar, and water in a bowl. Remove the oven racks and set it aside. Spread the mixture all over your oven, but be careful not to put the mixture into the heating areas and vent. Close the oven door and leave this solution overnight. On the next day, use a wet cloth to wipe and remove all the pasty substance in the oven. Then finish it off by adding one cup of vinegar in a spray bottle and spray it into the oven and then dry it clean. For the window area, follow the same steps but instead of leaving it overnight, leave it for about 30 to 45 minutes.
Another favorite method is by using lemons. Just like the first method, lemons are also known to be very effective and reliable cleaners too. To do this, cut two lemons in half and squeeze the juice in an ovenproof bowl or baking tray. After getting the citrus, put the squeezed lemons into the container too. Fill the container with one cup of water and then put it in the oven. Bake it at 250 degrees for 30 minutes. The citrus and water will create vapor inside the oven which will help to loosen the gunk and dirt inside it so it will be easier to remove and clean after. After baking the lemons, let the oven cool for about 3 to 4 hours before scrubbing off all the dirt. Use the remaining lemon water in the tub as your cleaning liquid. The lemon will also help remove grease for more natural cleaning. Wipe it with a clean cloth and dry it and you are good to go.
Baking Soda and Water
It is common to have residues and dirt cooked and dried inside the microwave when left and not cleaned right away. This could be hard to remove when using only your bare hands and clean water. Good thing there’s a way to do it conveniently. Create a paste with the baking soda and water mixture. Spread it inside the oven and leave it for 20 minutes. Use a clean Brillo pad to scrub and sponge to wipe the remaining paste and then dry it with a paper cloth.
Soak 5 to 10 paper towels into clean water and then place them in the microwave. Turn the microwave on and set it in high mode for 3 minutes. The steam from the towels will loosen and soften all the grime and dirt inside it. Let it cool down for at least 15 minutes and use the steamed paper towels to clean and wipe the microwave.
Bowl of Water
Fill the bowl with water and then put it into the microwave for 2 minutes. Set it on high. After this, leave the microwave door closed for 5 minutes. Remove the bowl and wipe the inside of the microwave using a dry rag.
STOVE TOP / CONVECTION RANGE
If you are using a range with electric coils, the coils can be a little tricky to clean. It is not allowed to submerge into the water so using a damp cloth with soapy water will do the trick. Just carefully wipe it with the wet cloth and dry it up with a clean rag. Oh and make sure the range is unplugged!
Baking Soda and Water
The baking soda and water paste is an effective cleanser to almost everything, and that includes the stove too. Just do the same method in the oven hack, and it should be done. The paste can remove stubborn stains and hard leftovers in the stove.
If you are using a gas range, you can wash the burners by using warm water and soap. To remove the greasy film coating, use the baking soda and water method. Leave it for 15 to 20 minutes and scrub it off using warm water and a clean cloth.
Vinegar and Water
If you are using a glass top stove, all you need is the vinegar and water solution. Glass stove can easily be cleaned out and very modern and upscale to look at. Cleaning it should always be done regularly or else, you will end up scratching the glass. I recommend you to wipe it with vinegar and water immediately after using if you want to maintain it glossy like-new finish.
