There is no doubt about it: your little ones are growing fast – and they are outgrowing their clothes even faster! So, when it comes down to creating a summer wardrobe for them, it can be hard to find the right compromise between buying high-quality clothes and saving money on items that will be passed on in just a few months.
In the sections below are some useful and practical tips that you can put into practice today to ensure that your kids have the best, most sustainable summer wardrobe. Let’s dive right in.
Choose To Shop Second-Hand – It’s Good for the Environment AND for Your Wallet!
According to recent estimates, parents spend, on average, around $1,280 annually on clothing for their little ones. And, of course, you’ll want to treat your kids to the best clothing for their needs. Nonetheless, this kind of spending can end up weighing on your household’s finances and throw your budget off balance.
Luckily, there is a simple way for you to buy high-quality clothing at a fraction of the price: buying second-hand items! What’s more, choosing pre-loved clothing for your little ones is a great way to reduce your household’s impact on the environment.
Support Local Brands
Buying clothes online or from large e-commerce marketplaces can be the most convenient option. However, doing so can penalize local brands and manufacturers that create unique items. Consider supporting the local economy of your hometown by shopping at local stores.
Opt for Natural Fibers
When looking for the best clothing items for your baby, the chances are that you’ll learn a lot about the different textiles and fabrics to choose from. While choosing the best one is all but easy, you should always consider opting for natural, minimally processed fabrics. Indeed, synthetic fabrics can contribute to skin problems and issues such as Eczema. So, buying colorful cloth covers for diapers isn’t just a great addition to your baby’s outfit, it can also protect your baby’s skin health!
Keep It Minimalist
The summer months are the best time of the year to clean out the house, declutter, and get rid of old or obsolete items that are just using up your livable space. But while you are getting your home ready for summer, you should also consider bringing a minimalist touch into your kids’ wardrobe! Getting rid of old items, creating capsule wardrobes, and cleaning out their closets can be a great way to keep on top of the items you have and reduce the number of clothes to wash, dry, and iron!
Involve Your Little Ones!
As your kids grow up, it is important for you to let them choose what they wish to wear. While it might seem a lengthy process, in the beginning, it can develop their decision-making skills and can help them understand how to make the best choices according to external factors such as the weather and color combinations. And, they can build their dream wardrobe!
… and that is it! Simple ideas to go by, and you’re all set to preparing a whole wardrobe for your little ones without breaking the bank!

July 5, 2022My kids basically live in their swim suits over the summer. We get a lot of hand-me-downs from friends which is the best because they pass on to my kids and then I pass them on to others so it doesn’t cost us much. Otherwise, I agree, that second-hand stores are awesome!

July 5, 2022That is super super cool. We didn’t really purposely create a wardrobe for our little ones, it was more random and it worked. I definitely prefer being organized. Amazing tips.

July 5, 2022Great tips! I have a baby and they grow even faster. So far I got everything secondhand and most of it is not actually used before. Many parents are giving away packs of clothing and it’s very convenient, saves time and effort as well as environmentally friendly. I think we should all do that way, only buying new if it’s something we really want
