What You’ll Learn As A Military Wife

Marriage is hard at the best of times, but nothing prepares you for what you go through as the wife of someone in the military. Whether you married knowing your spouse was in the military or it’s something new, it’s important to know what to expect from having your significant other deployed for long periods of time. Take a look at the things you’ll learn as a military wife so that you know what to expect and you can support your partner in their career choice.

You’ll need a support team
The worst part about being a military wife is the loneliness. Your partner will be away from you for months at a time, with little contact. Whilst everyone enjoys those rare times alone, the loneliness will creep up on you faster than you think.

You’ll quickly learn that surrounding yourself with military spouses is very important. They know exactly what you’re going through and can lend a shoulder to cry on, a friendly word of encouragement, and even a lifelong friendship that will help you through these lonely months. You should also keep your existing family and friends close to you for emotional support. Filling your life full of those that you care about will help you more than you’ll ever know.

You’ll become very resilient
You might not currently feel like you’re a strong person, but you will become extremely resilient to things that would upset the ‘normal’ person. Things like preparing to hear the worst news. You’ll have to talk to your partner about the possibility of this and what they need from you. From choosing a Civilian Court-Martial lawyer for any misunderstandings that may arise to military urns, some of these decisions you might find hard.. It’s not all bad though, the challenges that being a military wife throws at you will make you the best version of yourself, and help you keep things together when your partner needs you the most.

Raising children alone might be a possibility
If you and your partner are planning on having children but there’s no sign of them leaving the forces any time soon, then you’ll need to get used to the idea of becoming a solo parent. Raising children in a normal environment is a challenge in itself but when your partner is away on deployment you’re alone all of the time, and the pressure may get to you.

You may have to put your career on hold
Finally, there’s a large chance that your career may have to be put on hold. Aside from the obvious reason of having children, the military may move you around which could hinder your ability to pursue your career choice. Whilst this is something that’s perfectly normal to expect, it’s crucial to keep your plans and dreams in place and to pursue new challenges when you can.

Thank you for the inspirational message to help both those who have a military spouse and those who don’t have a better understanding of what it’s like and how you’ve coped.
