How To Choose The Right Artwork For Your Home

It might be your home or office – no matter where you want to add artwork, here are a couple of tips to help you.

Love, not like
You can’t just like the artwork you pick; you need to love it. You need to know that every time you look at it or someone asks about it, you’re going to be excited to start showing it off and talking about the artist and where you found it.

Being enthusiastic about the piece is a must, and if you are considering it for a little while before you buy it – you might not love it as much as you thought.

Art is an expression of feelings, colours, textures and movements – the piece should speak to you on a few levels.

This goes for anything from tiny canvas and prints to large sculptures.

Who did it?
If you are buying one-of-a-kind artwork, it is an investment for your home – but there is one way that you can understand the work on a deeper level. Finding out about the artist and, where possible, meeting them will give you an insight into how and why the piece was created.

You can often find a lot about the artist when you browse their online art gallery – but don’t be afraid to send a message or go to the studio and talk to them.

It’s always great for the artists to see where their work is going too.

Speed
Unfortunately for you (but fortunately for the artist), if you have found their work, then so will other people. And, over time, they will only become more popular – and that piece you had your eye on is going to be snapped up in no time at all.

So if you see a piece, even if it isn’t in your budget – reach out to the artist asap and see if you can get a payment plan in place.

Don’t miss out on great artwork because you were too slow, and others got there sooner.

Go to openings
You might be surprised just how much goes on in your area regarding the arts. There will be a lot of local artists and artists that are looking to break out. Often the artwork will be a lower price since they want to get their work out there.

Head to pop-ups and see what you can pick up; it can also be beneficial to start talking to the artist and have a piece commissioned.

There have been stories where young artists who went on to be huge sold some of their original artwork at the time for a few hundred – and now it’s worth millions.

Paperworks
Many artists produce multiple sketches and other artwork on paper – and while they might feel less substantial, paper works can hold a stunning place on your wall. They are not usually backed or framed, so you’ll need to get them done to protect them.

Watch out for ready-made mats for framing, as they can have acid that damages their work.
