How To Optimize Your Checkout Process To Boost Conversions

Running a successful business can be challenging. While attracting customers isn’t easy, convincing them to buy doesn’t get any easier. A study has shown that customer experience is critical for sustained business growth. While optimizing your online marketing campaign is key for guaranteeing that customers go down the sales funnel, a crucial part of this is ensuring an efficient and streamlined checkout process. Consider these four ways to optimize your checkout process to boost conversions.

Provide guest checkout
Customer friction is common during registration, so allowing them to finish the transaction as a guest can boost your conversions. According to a study, approximately 26% of your online customers will likely abandon their cart if they feel compelled to register first. That’s because they may find it intimidating since they are mentally prepared to only make a purchase. Providing guest checkout means customers may submit only their billing information instead of going through an entire registration process. While you can offer incentives to persuade people to become site members, the checkout page is the last place to do it.

Safe checkout process
You may be experiencing high cart abandonment due to the complexities of your checkout process. Some examples include the lack of multiple payment options and customers feeling unsafe entering their payment details. Fortunately, there are a few ways to solve this. For example, you can use a hosted payment page to allow your customers to select different payment types and securely make payments. Today, security is a top priority for online shoppers. Understanding hosted payments and effectively using them can improve your online conversions. Provide your consumers with various payment alternatives to choose their most convenient option.

Remove distractions
Aside from selling things, you may want to do a lot with your eCommerce website. For example, you want to promote your recent marketing campaign, increase your emailing list and encourage people to become site members. And since you have their attention at checkout, it can be tempting to use your checkout page to achieve other website goals. However, you may divert their focus from completing an order. Meanwhile, there are no guarantees they’ll accept any of the orders. Too many distractions can get customers overwhelmed, and this can reduce your sales. Limiting your other offers on the checkout page can boost your conversions.

Optimize checkout page speed
Optimized page speed is necessary for your entire website, but performance is particularly important at checkout. Several studies have shown that slow loading speed can reduce conversion by 7%. So you want to consider using tools like Google’s PageSpeed Insights to test your page speed. This wouldn’t only show you just the errors on the page but how to solve them technically. Align your plan to the best design practices to target unused plugins and data-heavy website features to make your checkout less clunky.

Several online businesses generate high traffic volumes, yet they record high cart abandonment. Considering the tips mentioned above should help reduce shopping cart abandonment and boost your sales.

These are absolutely amazing tips! You have to make your checkout process as clean as possible or you will absolutely lose a potential customer. They have to be solely focused on hitting that buy button.

The distractions are a major issue with some web sites. You are ready to complete your check- out, but an ad gets your attention and you end up clicking it, then possibly forget you were about to complete an order!

Agree with the guest checkout part. Providing guest checkout will make your customers feel more welcome and they might just register when they’re satisfied!

For me personally, guest checkout is a high quality option. I don’t always want to make an account, sign up, etc. I just want to buy the thing and checkout. Having an option for something like PayPal also make me feel more secure when submitting payment information.
