The weather outside is starting to get nice these days. Out here in Las Vegas, the weather can quickly get very cold or scorching hot. Depending on the temperature outdoors, running errands (and keeping up with energetic kids) can become a drag as fast as flipping a switch.

I honestly prefer the warmer weather. Plus, it is also a great excuse to freshen up with one of my favorite drinks. While everyone I know knows I am a coffeeholic, I am also very much into boba drinks. Whether it’s in the form of a milk tea, slush, smoothie, or just plain ol’ tea … as long as it has boba pearls, you bet I am interested! In case you didn’t know, Boba or also well known as Tapioca Pearls, goes by another name, “Sago,” which is what I initially know it as while growing up in the Philippines. It’s a typical drink we Filipino’s enjoy as “Sago at Gulaman,” which translates to Boba & Gelatin. With that said, I have been enjoying Boba for almost all my life.

But then, grabbing my favorite drink in a local tea shop has become a challenge as of late. With the pandemic, I honestly don’t want to take the risk of going outside. There’s also the fact that I would have to bring both my kids out for a drive to satisfy my cravings. Instead, I opted to create my boba milk tea from the comforts of our home.

Torani Puremade Mango Syrup

Torani Puremade Mango Syrup Boba Milk Tea

To my surprise, it was much easier than I thought! I honestly didn’t look up a recipe for this milk tea and went by taste and what combination would work great all together. This drink doesn’t have an actual name, so I’ll call it “Mango Sunrise Boba.” Sounds refreshing, right? Check out the recipe below!

Ingredients:
• Torani Puremade Mango Syrup
• Green Tea
• Coconut Cream
• Boba / Tapioca Pearls
• Torani Cane Sugar Sweetener

Optional Ingredients (extra toppings):
• Nata de Coco or Coconut Jelly
• Grass Jelly
• Aiyu Jelly

Recipe Concoction:
1. Brew 1 cup of green tea or buy a pre-made green tea.
2. Cook boba/tapioca pearls according to package instructions.
3. Soak boba/tapioca pearls in Torani Cane Sugar Sweetener for at least 30 minutes. The longer it sits in the syrup, the sweeter the pearls will become.
4. Pour brewed green tea over ice and add as much boba/tapioca pearls as desired.
5. Add 3 tbsp. of Torani Puremade Mango Syrup.
6. Mix 1/2 cup of coconut cream.
7. Stir, and it is ready to serve!

OPTIONAL: If you enjoy a classic milk tea style, you can opt to add the following tweaks to kick it up a notch.
• Toppings — nata de coco, grass jelly, and aiyu jelly.
• Whipped Coconut Cream

These optional additions have a very mild taste to them that complements the drink. It is not overpowering the milk tea’s mango flavor, which is the star of this drink.

PRO TIP: If it’s your first time making Boba or Tapioca Pearls, always test the pearls’ chewiness before completely draining them off the water. Not all pearls are made the same. Some take longer to cook and will require to be boiled over low fire. Doing this extra step will help avoid some pearls from disintegrating and guarantee to deliver equally chewy pearls. Well-made pearls = perfect drink.

This DIY Boba Refresher with Torani Puremade Mango Syrup is best served with a light snack on the side and can be enjoyed indoors, outdoors, and throughout the year. If you have access to a backyard or pool, even better! Enjoy.
