The average working woman has to work twice as juggle multiple tasks to ensure that nothing in her life is neglected. From work, to family, to personal health, she has to make sure that all of these are on point.
However, as great as women are at multi-tasking, the one thing place where women tend to fall short is self-care. Most women are so giving, so loving, so committed to making sure that everyone is okay, that they forget themselves in the process.
As women, we’re often the glue that holds everyone together, and the heart that makes sure everyone is fully cared-for. But like the literal heart, if we’re under too much stress and aren’t cared for like we should, we’ll break down. And we don’t want that.
For busy, working women who feel like their lives are a never-ending cycle of chores, this blog post is meant to help celebrate you and show you how to periodically rejuvenate and regroup. You’ll learn very easy ways to make out time –in spite of your busy life– to take good care of yourself.
Go Get Some Beauty Treatment
Many women are so busy they forget to pamper their skins. Yet, the skin is the first indicator of great health. If you’ve ever been told that you’re looking pale or have told someone, then you know all it took was once glance at the skin.
So, take some time out to get great beauty treatments and take good care of your skin. If you do not have a beauty regimen in place, work at establishing it. If you’re a mom, we know how much more difficult this can be, but you’ve got to do it for yourself.
Go out and get facials, waxed, manicures, and pedicures. Just glow up even if it’s for a day. This will make you feel really good about yourself, and elevate your sense of well-being. Make sure to do this every once in a while –twice a month if you can afford it– to take great care of yourself.
Read a Great Book
A smart, intelligent woman is a product of the information she internalizes. And the best way to do that is by reading. Many women find a lot of joy and tranquility when they immerse themselves in an amazing book.
So, why not do this at least once a week. Grab a lovely title, make yourself a hot cup of chocolate, tea, wine, or coffee –whatever your preference– and just read. We love fiction a lot because they’re pleasurable and passive reading materials.
They engage the right side of the brain –the creative side– and have a relaxing effect. Try that, and see how you feel.
Soak in Hot Tub
We recommend you do this at least twice a week during the summer and more frequently during the winter. Run yourself a bubble bath and just soak in the bath. Add some scented oils to further enhance the experience.
Remember to keep your phone aside and just chill. We know that this is hard for many women, particularly when you feel like you need to catch up on the latest celebrity gist.
Well, here’s a little something to encourage you: the celebrity you want to read about is probably getting a hot soak or doing something fun while you’re reading about them. So you might as well do that some other time.
Get a Massage
If you can afford a spa treatment, by all means, treat yourself to one at least once a month. It could be after a particularly difficult week. Go to a spa, get a massage, and indulge yourself in all the treatments you can afford.
Massages are great for relieving stress, relaxing you, and lowering your anxiety levels. If you can’t afford a massage, see if your partner can give you one.
Massages, particularly full-body types, are incredibly amazing and should be a part of every woman’s self-care routine. As far as we’re concerned you’ve earned it and you deserve it.
Hang Out With Friends
This is easily one of the best ways to relieve stress, improve your mental health, and feel great about yourself. It’s even more important when you’re married and have been tending to your partner and kids non-stop for a while.
You can all go hang out and have dinner, go dancing, have a girls’ night, or plan a weekend getaway with your significant other. You could also just play games. Like card games, video games, board games… whatever works for you and the girls.
Some women love playing baccarat, go fish, crazy eights, gin rummy, Bingo –here’s a Bingo FAQ if you’re interested– canasta, and so many more. Find the games that you’ll all enjoy and have fun with them.
Many women swear by game nights’ ability to help them feel great after a long day or week of stress. And if games aren’t your thing, you could just hang with friends, sip wines, and just have some plain adult conversations. We love our kids, but taking a break from them is sometimes necessary –there, we said it for you ;).
Consider Therapeutic Hobbies
Do you have any hobbies? We’re pretty sure you –or more like you did. Most women forget about themselves when they are married and have kids. Well, for your own sanity, you need to get at least one hobby.
If the hobby you used to like is no longer age-appropriate –here’s looking at you skinny-dipping– you can find and adopt new ones. Think of arts and crafts, scrapbooking, gardening, cooking, painting, knitting, sewing, journaling, or pottery.
There’s a ton of options out there that you can explore. Some women swear by the therapeutic nature of gardening and its ability to help them “escape” for a while. If you’re not the earthy type, you can always find something that works for you.
Go Shopping
Every woman loves new, pretty things. But for some of us, shopping is a chore, while for others, it’s an absolute delight. If you belong to the latter group, then you should definitely make out time to do some shopping for new clothes, shoes, bags… whatever you like.
This will not only provide you with ample opportunities to find out the latest fashion trends, but it also allows you to find truly beautiful fashion materials and accessories that’ll transform your wardrobe.
