Keeping your home pest-free is something that most homeowners aspire to. However, if you are not proactive then keeping your home pest free can be a challenge.
There are many things you can do that are simple and easy and that can keep the pests out of your home. Here are some of the main ways in which you can easily keep bugs out of your home throughout the year.
Don’t Make Bugs Feel Comfortable
One of the main things you need to do is to ensure that bugs do not feel comfortable in your home. The smallest things that you overlook can be a door in for bugs.
For example, if you have tiny gaps in your front door or tears in your window screen then bugs will find their way inside your home to these small openings.
Seal the cracks and holes with caulk or get them repaired altogether. You can add weather stripping around your door to keep the bugs out as well. The bottom line is that little cracks and openings are a gateway that you want to avoid having.
Keep Your Kitchen Clean
One way to make sure that you are always keeping the bugs at bay is to clean up your kitchen. Your countertops and your pantry are a prime source of food for pests if they get into them. Keeping these areas clean is essential.
Whenever there’s a mess in your kitchen try to clean it up as soon as possible. Keep your pantry as organized and needs as possible. Keep your sweets in sealed containers because you usually don’t like to go for this kind of food.
Instead of buying large packages of some items instead buy smaller packages so that you will not have a large amount of them stored up at a time.
Dry Up Wet Places
Bugs do not only come into a home when they want warmth and food color they will also come into your home where they want. Some insects love to crawl indoors because they love areas where it’s damp. If you have leaky faucets and fives then you should try to fix them as soon as possible.
If there are areas in your home that are always damp or cold such as the basement you use a dehumidifier to help get away some of the humanity. Check your attic as well to make sure that it is kept dry and that it is not leaking. This can be an area where insects love to hide as well.
Clean and Sweep
It may sound simple but one of the best defenses you have against having bugs in your home is to practice good housekeeping. Vacuum your home and empty your trash cans regularly. This will have to keep bugs at day.
Once you have things accumulating on your floors such as crumbs and trash bins that are full, then insects will be attracted to them and try to get into your home.
Store Firewood Correctly
One easy way to make sure you’re not harboring insects is to store firewood in the correct place. Do not store firewood too close to your home. Storing them too close to the sides of your home means that you are creating a haven for insects to crawl into.
They will eventually crawl out of the wood and into your home. They can cause damage to the exterior of your home and even the foundation when you store firewood too close to your home.
Instead of stacking them against the walls of your home, you could perhaps stack them against a fence in your yard.
You could also buy a firewood holder to contain all your firewood. If you don’t take these precautions you may end up having to call in a pest exterminator to help rid your home of bugs.
Live a Pest Free Life
It’s safe to say that you probably do not want to have to deal with pests in your home. However, if you’re not careful then bugs will take over your home. The most important thing is that you try to keep your home as clean as possible.
Make sure that you remove food and water that can attract them into your home. Seal areas that they may try to enter without you knowing. Bugs are only attracted to places where they can get water, food and shelter.
If your home does not provide any of these three things for them, then they will not be attracted to it, and you will not have a bug problem in your home.
