There’s something so lovely about an outdoor party – it might be the fresh air, the open space, or the chance to soak up some sunshine (in fact, depending on what time of year you’re reading this, that could be the thing that’s making you want to get something in the diary), and whatever else, it’s a fantastic way to gather friends and family. Whether it’s a backyard barbecue, a picnic in the park, or a garden party, organizing an outdoor party doesn’t have to be a chore, and it can actually be a lot of fun. With that in mind, keep reading to find out more.
Choose The Right Location
The first thing to work out is where your party’s happening – your own backyard is always a convenient option, but if that’s not possible or you’d rather go further afield, what about parks, beaches, or renting somewhere with a larger outdoor space? Think about the style of party you’re aiming for and what you want to achieve, and that should help you work out where to have it.
Once you’ve picked a spot, make sure you’ve got the basics covered – seating, shade, and bathrooms (you want people to be comfortable whether you’re at home or away). And if there happens to be a beautiful view, that’s fantastic, but comfort has to be a priority.
Set The Scene
Outdoor parties are all about the atmosphere, so string up some fairy lights, lay down picnic blankets, use some fantastically fun table settings, and whatever else you need to do to create the atmosphere you want. And because the weather can often be unpredictable, it’s wise to think about weatherproof options – if it’s a windy day your paper decorations could blow away, so maybe opt for something a little stronger.
For an extra personal touch, why about incorporating little keepsakes for your guests? Items like custom hats and visors not only tie into your party’s outdoor theme, but they’ll also be handy to protect people against the sun and/or rain – plus they’ll be a fun memento of the day, so it could be a good choice.
Have A Backup Plan
We’ve mentioned how unpredictable the weather is, and if you’re planning an outdoor party, that’s something you’ve got to bear in mind – and it’s why you should have a backup plan just in case. It doesn’t have to mean moving the entire party or even canceling it (which really would be a shame and a last resort), and it can be something simple like a pop-up canopy or a marquee to save the day if it rains. If it’s colder than you expected, cozy blankets and heaters could be what helps, and even if it’s hot during the day, these things could be useful when the sun goes down no matter what the weather’s like in general.
Although you can’t change the weather, you can check the forecast and make some plans to combat any issues it might bring – it’s far better to have things and then not need them than to suddenly be searching for umbrellas or extra layers for your guests if the weather turns bad.
