We are in the middle of the great resignation. More people are looking for ways to say goodbye to the 9-5 grind and launch their own business or go freelance.
Not everyone has the option just to leave the day job and jump into having your own company – and that’s a good thing.
It gives you time to work on what you want to do full time and maybe for the rest of your life.
Fulfilling and meaningful work can come from anything that you love. If you have a flair for design work, or perhaps you have an affinity with languages. It is all possible.
A couple of essential skills will help you put your passion for working and shape your future.
Education
Passion can only take you so far, and after that comes knowing. Education can play a vital part in securing contracts and finding companies and people willing to hire you.
While it might just ‘be a piece of paper,’ the fact you have it can open the door to what you want to do.
Access to courses has never been so easy; you can choose to learn how to teach your native language, take a course in PR or social media, or nutrition and a youth fitness certification.
LinkedIn, Udemy, Fiverr, and Master Class all have easy-to-access classes. Simply find what you want to do – and do it!
It is also a great idea to learn marketing, social media management, and other promo skills.
Time
You have a day job and a family to take care of. Or perhaps you have a day job and other commitments. Finding time to explore your passion and create something from that isn’t always easy.
What can help is creating a weekly or monthly timetable. Look at where you have the time and the energy to put into planning and to create.
Passion can be a huge driver to ensure that you make the time, but it can be hard to maintain motivation after a whole week of work.
So try to select a time in your week where you usually have no other demands and block out a few hours to dedicate to your new adventure.
Another note on time is that you shouldn’t try to rush what you are doing – although in many cases, launching an MVP is better than waiting to have a fully stocked ‘store.’
Belief
One of the biggest things that will get you through the more challenging days and nights of creating something for yourself is self-belief.
Even when friends and family question you about how you will make it work, it’s time to hold fast and believe in yourself.
You can create the future that you want, you will put aside time to learn and grow – and eventually, you will make it a success.
Understand that success isn’t usually a straight line either; it’s more like an iceberg. People only see the top – the visible work and success, not everything that goes on underneath.
Believe in yourself – you will do it.
What do you think?
