Got a front yard that you’d like to spruce up? Many people don’t take advantage of this space. Below are a few fun tips on how you can transform your front yard.
Get decorative with your driveway
Don’t settle for a dull driveway. There are so many materials and patterns you can use when creating a driveway. Those with plenty of space outside their home could consider hiring paving companies to create a sweeping paved driveway. Such paved driveways can have a sophisticated look and you can choose from all kinds of paving patterns and colors. Alternatively, you could opt for gravel as a cheaper and lower maintenance option. Gravel is a fun option because there are equally so many different styles of gravel from marble chips to slate gravel. Other features like lighting could also help to transform your driveway.
Add a garden path
A front lawn with a garden path leading towards the door could help to make your home both more dramatic and inviting. You could opt for a straight gravel path for a clean modern look. Alternatively, you could consider a winding paved stepping stone path for a more romantic olde-worlde look. It’s worth lighting the way with some solar lights – this won’t just help you and your guests to use the path in the evening, but it could also boost your home’s curb appeal.
Create a suntrap courtyard
If you have an enclosed front yard (i.e. one with walls or fences either side) and it gets most of the sun in the evening, you could take advantage of this by turning it into a courtyard. This could contain some chairs and tables for you to relax in, and could even be a space for hosting parties. To offer privacy and give it that enclosed courtyard feel, you’ll want to build tall walls or hedges around your front yard – just make sure that this doesn’t block out the sun and defy the point of using this area.
Add a gate for security
A gate installation at the entrance of a driveway can make your home feel grand, as well as improving security. Gates come in all different materials from wrought iron to redwood pine. Try to find a style of gate that reflects your home so that it doesn’t look too out of place. Be wary that swing gates will need enough clearance room to swing inwards – if you have a small driveway and more than one vehicle in your household, there may not be enough room for a gate to swing once a car is parked there.
Play around with sculptures and ornaments
Sculptures and ornaments can bring a charming playful touch to your front yard. You could opt for something traditional such as garden gnomes or flamingoes, or you could try something a bit more quirky – you can check out a few different ornament ideas here. It’s popular for many people to add seasonal decorations such as xmas decorations or halloween decorations.
