Gadgets and Tech for at Home Learning

Many students have been switched over to remote learning this year and with the fall school season still in question, it’s important that you know what type of gadgets and tech you should have for at home learning. Today I’m sharing some of the essential items you’ll need to have on hand for back to school season when you opt to homeschool.
Gadgets and Tech for at Home Learning

Laptop
It’s important to have a way for kids to access the internet when you’re homeschooling. Find a laptop that’s equipped to handle the workload that your kids will have during at home learning sessions. The laptop should have a mic and webcam for any virtual meeting requirements and a way to type essays using Word or other programs offered on new laptops.

iPad
Having an iPad can open the doors for your kids to read audiobooks, research projects, and even get some music therapy to help them achieve success with at home learning. When you get an iPad for your kids make sure to go through all of the parental controls so that you know what they’re accessing and when. You may even want to set time limits so that they don’t overuse this at home learning gadget.

Apple Pen
The Apple Pen will help encourage your kids to draw and write more often. Since kids love technology this gadget for at home learning will inspire your kids to write more frequently and allow you to assign spelling words, writing assignments, and much more without needing old school pencils and paper.

Drawing Tablet
As part of art education, you must have a drawing tablet for your at home learning. While you can download apps on your iPad to help your kids with drawing for art class, it’s better to have a specific gadget for at home learning that helps your kids advance their artistic skills.

Audiobooks
Audiobooks are available on almost any gadget for at home learning, but you may consider getting an Amazon Kindle that’s for use only for reading time. Audiobooks can allow your kids to expand their reading and language skills even if they hate reading.

Headset
Lastly, you’ll need to have a high-quality headset for your kids to use during at home learning. This gadget can be used to play music while your kids work on their assignments or for use during virtual meetings with classmates and teachers when working in a remote learning setting.

tech desk

These are just some of the best gadgets and tech to have for at home learning. Each of these ideas will help you educate your kids in a remote learning situation. I hope that you can use this list as a starting point to be prepared for at home learning this back to school season.

Definitely! We learned from distance learning that it is so important to have quality, working devices that can be used on multiple learning platforms. All of these items are very much needed as we approach the new school year.

100% would recommend a drawing tablet. Gives a semblance of “normalcy” since you’d get to use your handwriting!

  • A solid list of essentials here to help students effectively get through homeschooling successfully. Headphones are a real must to minimize distractions. Audiobooks are another great way to focus and learn, with so many great titles to choose from these days.
